Shambhala provides support to an all-female mala bead-making cooperative in Tibet called the Mala Bead Breakfast Club. The program empowers a group of marginalized Buddhist nuns living in the ancient Barkor section of Lhasa to use existing skills while promoting a traditional craft, in turn evolving it into a culturally sustainable business.

Mala prayer beads are a key symbol of Tibetan Buddhist culture and lifestyle values, used by monks and ordinary people alike while reciting mantras. When not used for concentrated and calming recitation, mala beads are often worn wrapped around the wrist or as a necklace for convenience or even fashion. 100% of mala bead sales will go to support the Mala Bead Breakfast Club initiative.
